Description

The project, entitled: VINCI RELOAD, mainly assumes the organizing of an international summer school dedicated to the best worldwide students. The choice of support results from the popularity of the so-called short-term programs, including summer schools and other educational programs lasting from 2 to 8 weeks. The project will be realized in the period from 01/09/2025 to 31/07/2026.

Students from EU and non-EU countries who have completed at least one year of first-cycle studies or are in the process of second-cycle studies (computer science or chemical sciences or physical sciences or materials engineering) can apply to the VINCI School. Attention! We do not recruit Ph.D. students for the project. Each of the participants of the School will receive a scholarship of PLN 5 000.00. Students will stay three weeks at the University of Silesia in Poland. The Faculty of Science and Technology conducts the School with the support of four Scientific institutes: Institute of ChemistryInstitute of PhysicsInstitute of Computer ScienceInstitute of Materials Engineering

The VINCI Summer School Programme offers basic and advanced physics, chemistry, computer science, and materials engineering courses. Summer Students will attend a series of lectures specially prepared for them. Moreover, School gives a unique opportunity to join in the day-to-day work of research teams participating in experiments at the Faculty of Science and Technology University of Silesia. The courses on the polish culture in the School of Polish Language and Culture and two excurses are also part of the program. Students are required to prepare a short report (presentation) on their work at the Faculty of Science and Technology University of Silesia, which should be presented at the end of their stay during the closing seminar

During the Vinci Summer School chemistry workshops, students will learn, among others: to characterise aromatic compounds, explain phase changes occurring in nature and everyday life, learn the most important issues of materials thermodynamics as well as recognise the role of chemometrics and its methods in effective product quality testing. They will also learn the importance of photochemical and photophysical properties of vitamin B12 derivatives. Then they will carry out individual research projects under the supervision of tutors specialising in the research topic chosen by the student. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the specifics of research work and the latest scientific research conducted by the research teams of the Institute of Chemistry.

The Vinci Summer School in the field of Computer Science allows the participants to explore issues related to the broadly understood artificial intelligence (including artificial intelligence with biometrics) and machine learning as well as data visualisation and creation of artistic patterns. These issues will be addressed both in theory and in practice. Workshops in research teams will take the form of individual work under a supervision of a scientist working at the Institute of Computer Science at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Silesia, specialising in the area chosen by the student. The research will allow students to test their theoretical knowledge in practice. Workshops will be of an experimental nature; the student will have the opportunity to propose and implement new algorithms and verify their accuracy on real data sets from different domains. Such cooperation will allow for the implementation of scientific research with the use of specialised software, under the supervision of a scientist, which in turn should contribute to publishing the research results.
