The lecture introduces the essential principles and components of TEM operation. It covers electron guns, lenses, and apertures, as well as key electron–specimen interactions that guide the design of modern TEM instruments. The lecture explains the distinction between diffraction and imaging modes in TEM/STEM and how each mode provides different types of information. It also highlights advances in aberration-corrected systems and the possibilities offered by in-situ microscopy for observing materials under realistic conditions.ollider at CERN
